Candy Queen was founded by husband-and-wife team Michael and Karen, inspired by a belief that candy can be fun while still being thoughtfully done.

For Karen, that belief started in Sweden. Growing up, a trip to the candy store wasn’t just about getting something sweet. It was the excitement of walking in, seeing rows of colorful candy and taking your time choosing exactly what would go into your bag. Candy was a weekend tradition, something anticipated, enjoyed together and made special by the experience of choosing it yourself.

From Sweden to the Snack Drawer

As adults, Karen and Michael continued to visit Sweden regularly, returning home with lists of favorite candies and an extra suitcase (or two). They shared those traditions with their kids and friends who grew to love them too.

At the same time, they were deep in the world of school events, sports teams, and community gatherings, seeing firsthand how complicated it can be to plan something that kids love and parents feel good about.

That combination sparked Candy Queen: what if they could recreate the joy of walking into a Swedish candy store and bring the entire experience directly to the celebrations people were already planning?

Building Candy Queen

Michael had already turned an idea that began in his two-car garage into Junk King, growing the company to 170 locations across North America. His entrepreneurial experience, particularly designing truck-based operations and understanding the logistics required to make a mobile business run efficiently, gave the couple a unique foundation for bringing their next idea to life.

And Michael has always been a serious candy enthusiast.

Rather than opening a traditional storefront, they designed Candy Queen to bring the candy-store experience directly to people, combining Karen’s connection to Swedish candy culture with Michael’s experience building a successful business on wheels.
